MILLINOCKET – For the second time in as many years, golf lovers hit the greens to raise money for the renovation of Millinocket Regional Hospital’s Oncology clinic. Katie Mackin, marketing director for MRH, said this year’s event was a huge success.
“Beautiful weather, a fun, relaxing vibe on the course, lots of contests, delicious food, the Katahdin Federal Credit Union air cannon.. all this made for a really fun day!” Mackin said on Tuesday as the results of the event came in. This year’s event raised almost $13,000 for the renovation project.
Held at Hillcrest Golf Club, the tournament hosted 10 four person teams. Over 30 sponsors supported the event, with Brookfield contributing $3,000 at the Silver level; Katahdin Federal Credit Union sponsored the air cannon for $2,000; Spectrum Healthcare Partner provided the funds for the prime rib dinner at $1,000; Bangor Savings Bank sponsored the BBQ lunch for a $750 commitment; and the breakfast was provided by the Knights of Columbus 4th degree Knights and Council 680.
“The phenomenal support of the golfers, sponsors and volunteers is what made this event possible—and successful!” Mackin said. “We are so grateful for each and every one of them and their generous contributions,” she said.
Overall winners for the tournament were KFCU: Herbie Clark, Jamie Leavitt, Joe Clark and Rod Daigle, Sr. The 1st Gross team was Brookfield #2: Chris MacDonald, Kevin Bernier, Ryan Nadeau, and Steve Hodge. The 1st Net was Team Olbrys: Dan Nelson, Ed Olbrys, Kevin Libby and Mickey Lakeman.
In addition to golf, there were many contests to add excitement to the day.
