MRH will be hosting its Health & Wellness Fair again this year on Saturday, April 29th from 10am to 2pm at Stearns High School. This year’s event highlights include:
- Free screenings
- Blood pressure screenings
- Pre-diabetes glucose tests
- Bone density scans
- Carotid artery ultrasounds
- Educational materials
- Demonstrations
- Hands only CPR
- Music & memory program for people with Alzheimer’s
- Prescription drug take back for unused/expired medications courtesy of Penobscot County Sheriff’s Dept and Millinocket Police Department
- Maine State Police will be on site to provide tours of their new “Impaired Driving” rig, which is equipped with everything officers need to help combat impaired driving. They will be available to discuss the issues with impaired driving; both alcohol and drugged driving and have hands-on “beer goggle” demonstrations.
Again this year, we will be dedicated an entire gym to interactive stations promoting Health & Wellness for children! Activities in the Children’s Area include:
- Mini Greenhouses – materials donated by The Scotts Company and Crandall’s Hardware
- Boo Boo Booth – Millinocket Regional Hospital
- Robotics and Legos – Millinocket Memorial Library
- Animal Yoga with Carrie Marcin
- Germs and proper handwashing – Millinocket Regional Hospital
- Children’s garden: planting pin wheels – Penquis
- Bike safety – Bikes for Books
- Life size Jenga
- “I am” Wall to promote positive self-thinking and unity – Millinocket Regional Hospital
Other organizations providing children’s activities include Maine Discovery Museum, Hannaford and Kids Peace.
