Hospital’s renovation well underway, moving ahead

MILLINOCKET – As 2020 arrives and settles in, the renovation of the Oncology Clinic at MRH is moving forward as well.
Katie Mackin, Director of Marketing at Millinocket Regional Hospital, recently met with the hospital’s Director of Plant Operations, Dale McLaughlin to get an update on the progress of the project.
“We compiled a list of what has been completed in the clinic, what is in progress and what work remains,” Mackin said.
Contractors Nickerson and O’Day (who are also doing the town’s library renovation simultaneously) have completed the following projects: the footprint has been expanded to encompass the hallway and maximize available space; wall framing and sheet rock has been done with the electrical and plumbing roughed in; and HVAC has been roughed in (heating, ventilation and air conditioning); six new windows have been installed which will bring in natural light and brighten the space; medical gasses are installed and certified; and the new fire alarm system is roughed in as well as the fire sprinklers being relocated as needed.
The work currently in progress includes: painting the sheet rock; installation of the ceiling; and the cabinetry is being built off-site by Maine Heritage Timber.
The following items on the “still to do” list are not yet in progress: installation of the lighting, cabinetry, floors, doors, bathrooms, sinks, and curtains.
Mackin said that MRH wanted to give everyone an update on the status of the renovation.
“We still do not have a time frame for completion narrowed down, but we wanted to put together an update to show our progress,” said Mackin.
The hospital will continue to inform the community on the project as new information becomes available.
