  • McAvoy named to Chief Financial Officer position

By Robbie McKay    Lincoln News • February 14, 2019

MILLINOCKET – Bob Peterson, Chief Executive Officer of Millinocket Regional Hospital, has announced that Mellissa McAvoy has been selected to serve as the hospital’s chief financial officer.

“Mellissa is well known to most of us as she has been on the MRH Board of Trustees since 2002 and has served as President of the Board since 2012,” Peterson said recently in a memo to hospital employees.  “Her skills and experience are exactly what we need in these challenging times and I look forward to her immediate impact,” he added.

McAvoy’s experience is extensive.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Business with concentrations in Accounting and Finance from the University of Maine.  She also has a Masters in Accounting and Financial Management and an MBA (Masters in Business Administration).  She has been a self employed accountant for 18 years, and a CPA since 2010, with an office in Patten and one in East Millinocket.

“Healthcare is ever changing, not only on the clinical front, but also (with) the regulatory and finance challenges that hospitals are faced with every day,” McAvoy said.  “I believe that the hospital is a vital part of not only the Millinocket community, but the entire region, and want to see the hospital not only survive, but succeed for years to come.  If we expect young people to stay or move here, we not only need the jobs, we need access to quality care close to home,” she said.

Peterson told employees that the hospital has contracted with Calculations, Inc. to provide the financial services for the organization.  McAvoy owns the business and she herself will be the person working directly with MRH.

She has served on the hospital’s board of directors since 2002 and in 2012 was appointed chairman of the board.
