Millinocket Regional Hospital announces the opening of their new walk-in care facility
by Robbie McKay, The Lincoln News
In order to offer their patients a variety of options in health care choices, Millinocket Regional Hospital has announced that a new walk-in care facility will be opening in early August. Katie Mackin, marketing coordinator for MRH, said the offices will be located at 87 Main Street in East Millinocket.
“MRH has also purchased the building at 81 Main Street with demolition planned for the near future. Once demolition is complete, the site will be tastefully landscaped,” she said. The building will house a waiting room and four examination rooms; the former bank vault will be used for storage of medications and supplies.
As well as the new facility, MRH has announced that additional medical personnel have been hired to fill the Katahdin region’s medical needs. “Two providers have been hired full time to staff Walk-In Care – Sandra Gilbert-Lord, PA-C and Andrea Barr, FNP. It will also be staffed with two, full-time medical assistants,” Mackin continued.
Providers will treat conditions including: cough, cold, flu, ear aches, nausea, cuts, burns, minor stomach pain, urinary tract infections, rashes, boils and cysts. Providers will also be able to administer stitches when necessary, examine sprains, strains and possible broken bones; however, patients will need to go to MRH for x-rays. There are plans to add x-ray capabilities at the Walk-In Care in the future.
Expanded hours will also make health care more convenient for the communities that MRH serves. The WICF (walk-in care facility) will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Insurances as well as private pay will be accepted.
