MRH response to Lewiston mass shooting
From the desk of Robert Peterson, D.Sc., FACHE

We are devasted by the inconceivable tragedy that took place in Lewiston last night. While we know these senseless acts are happening all over the country, it’s a situation we all hoped we’d never experience this close to home.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to the families and friends of the victims, to the first responders, hospital staff, and law enforcement officers in the Lewiston/Auburn region who have been impacted by this horrific and tragic situation, and to all the people of Maine.
Internally, an Incident Command meeting was held this morning to ensure that MRH was taking appropriate precautions based on the information available to us from various state agencies. At this juncture, there is no indication that any credible threat exists locally. We will continue to monitor the situation and will make decisions fluidly based on the most up-to-date information we have. As of right now, we have elected to remain open at all sites.
The safety of our staff and patients remains paramount. Public entry areas will remain open, but in an abundance of caution, all other outside access points will be locked. All staff have been advised to monitor the public access points of their building periodically throughout the day and report any abnormal activity directly to me or to a vice president. We will take immediate action on these reports. Should the current situation change or if new information becomes available, we will alter our response accordingly.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance as we navigate these unsettling incidents.
Be vigilant, stay safe, and hold your loved ones a little closer today.
