Dr. Rueter serves as the Chief Medical Officer at The Jackson Laboratory (the first in that role) as well as the Medical Director of the Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative. He is a practicing Medical Oncologist and Hematologist that exclusively sees patients at Millinocket Regional Hospital.
When not caring for patients at MRH, Dr. Rueter's focus is on clinical research in the fields of Oncology (cancer) and Hematology (blood and blood disorders).

In addition to my full-time role as the Chief Medical Officer at The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), I wanted to maintain a practice in a rural setting. The project I primarily work on for JAX is also about impacting rural cancer care in the entire state of Maine through cancer genomics. When this opportunity presented itself in 2017, it allowed me to fulfill my full-time role at JAX as well as my desire to practice.
Practicing at MRH gives me the opportunity to stay in contact with what’s happening in the community and take care of rural cancer patients.

I have known Bruce Rioux for many years. We worked at the VA in Togus together. I have enormous respect for him and he frequently told me how happy he was at MRH. I love to provide anesthesia in the rural setting having worked at Rumford and Bridgton hospitals in the past. When I heard there was opening at MRH it felt like a perfect fit. Having been here since January I have come to know and like the people here in Millinocket. The countryside is stunning as well. I look forward to everything there is to offer in the coming years.

Hiking, kayaking, fishing and enjoying the great Maine outdoors
We came to Maine initially from England to experience and enjoy its pure and untouched natural beauty. We were then mesmerized by the beautiful nature in and around Millinocket, which to us is majestic and magical and out of this world. This is also reflected in its people who are happy, content and full of joy of life. This is very uplifting to us and truly we did not find it anywhere else on earth. The place and its people are unique and we love it all.

Husband, Dave, is a physical education teacher at Mattanawcook Junior High School. Two sons, Brady (11) and Carter (9), and a chocolate lab, Chase (6).
Spending time with family, going to camp, being outdoors, snowmobiling, watching my sons sporting events and reading.
I have worked at MRH for five years as a nurse care manager and have loved every minute of it. The patients, their families, staff and community were welcoming since day one. It made my decision to come back after furthering my education very easy. I also particularly enjoy the small-town atmosphere and practice setting where I can truly get to know my patients and what matters to them.

As a physician, I have a particular interest in hospital medicine, as well as dermoscopy and dermatologic care in primary care, and experience with definitive management for localized skin cancers.
I also have 8 years experience in EMS as both a Basic EMT and Paramedic prior to medical school, and enjoy continuing to be involved in emergency care here at MRH.
Patricia Turnquist (wife)
Emma Turnquist (daughter, born 2014)
I chose to come to MRH because it provides a unique opportunity for me to use multiple skill sets; including my knowledge of inpatient medicine, primary care, emergency medicine, skin care, and chronic wound management all within a single practice environment. I enjoy rural medical practice, and the opportunity to both capitalize on, and continue to expand, the breadth of my knowledge to more completely serve a community lacking in subspecialty care.

I really enjoy covering shifts at rural community hospitals like MRH because you actually get a chance to connect with people in a way that is so difficult at larger hospitals or in big systems.
Millinocket has such a welcoming community spirit and has been such a pleasant place to work whenever I travel here. The hospital really seems to foster a space for connection, which is an incredibly important part of actually helping a person to heal and recover.

I have been practicing in Boston, MA and Miami, FL for the past 7 years. My husband and I, having both grown up in Maine, were ready to come back home and join a small community that takes care of each other. We grew up loving Millinocket and the Mt. Katahdin Region so the opportunity to join the well-respected MRH was a no-brainer.
